D11.1 – Online Knowledge Sharing Event for Civic Engagement EU Practitioners

On 22 January 2026, the LISTEN project (Learning and Inclusion for SusTainable Community ENgagement) delivered the online Pan-European workshop “WE LISTEN, WE CREATE: Participatory and Art-Based Pathways”, bringing together 118 civic engagement practitioners from 14 European countries.

The workshop created a transnational learning space for civil society organisations, community actors, and practitioners committed to inclusive citizen participation. The session focused on how arts-based and participatory methodologies, particularly Participatory Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed, can strengthen dialogue, empower marginalised voices, and foster meaningful civic engagement.

The workshop brought together and connected practitioners across EU countries, strengthening cross-country collaboration and advancing practical knowledge exchange on inclusive civic engagement methodologies.

Beyond inspiration, the workshop translated participatory approaches into actionable, context-sensitive strategies, demonstrating that trust, intentional design, and long-term commitment are essential foundations for meaningful community participation.
