‘Circus in the neighbourhood’

‘Circus in the neighbourhood’

NGO: Stad Dendermonde

Country: Belgium

Participation: Photo

In a vulnerable neighbourhood in Dendermonde, the local culture and sports services collaborated with the local circus school to organize free circus workshops on Wednesday afternoons. The activity was set up as an open, free flow format where people could drop in and out as they wished. Taking place on a grassy field in the middle of the neighbourhood, the circus space became a natural meeting point for residents.
Everyone was welcome to join — young and old, girls and boys, people with disabilities, and residents from diverse backgrounds. The circus activities brought the entire community together, and participants quickly experienced a sense of achievement and joy. Circus proved to be a powerful tool for connection, confidence building, and inclusive neighbourhood engagement.
