“Ground Zero” is a youth-led short film that tells the story of a cheerleading club in Topolovgrad, portraying discipline, joy, and teamwork as powerful expressions of civic solidarity. Through the experiences of the young cheerleaders, the film reveals how their group represents far more than a sport or extracurricular activity. It becomes a symbol of the town’s ‘good heart’, reflecting collective care for one another. The club is portrayed as a “second family of choice”, where members learn mutual support, patience, and a sense of belonging. Blending moments from rehearsals with lively B-roll footage of shared experiences outside the rehearsal hall, the short film “Ground Zero” captures both the discipline behind the performances and the joy that unites the team. The result is a vivid portrait of youthful energy and shared purpose. It tells the story of how friendship, teamwork, and a shared sense of responsibility can turn everyday experiences into meaningful expressions of active citizenship. The movie was created under the framework of the LISTEN project.
