A 4-day capacity-building event for community organisationsTopolovgrad, Bulgaria

As part of the Learning and Inclusion for Sustainable Community Engagement (LISTEN) project, the Policy and Citizens’ Observatory organised a four-day creative training titled “Light, Lens…LISTEN” in Topolovgrad, Bulgaria.

Held from 18 to 21 October 2025, the training transformed research findings into an inspiring local learning process that blended visual literacy, intergenerational dialogue, and civic reflection. Using smartphones, microphones, and tripods, participants, including young people and older residents learned that active citizenship can begin with storytelling, observation, and shared memory.

Participants filmed, interviewed, and edited together across generations documenting everyday life, local traditions, and untold stories. By the end of the training, participants had not only produced three community films but also redefined storytelling as a democratic act, a way to see, listen, and care for their town.
